Gary Armstrong Woodwinds was started more then
thirty-five years ago by Gary Armstrong, who remains the
chief repair technician. Gary started playing the oboe in his
teens, and after years of study came to the cross roads that
young players face. Choosing to forgo the usual stresses of
constant auditions and performances, Gary decided to take
the road less travelled and began to repair instruments.
Over his long career Gary has, through the constant need
for perfection, improved upon and even pioneered many of
the world class repair techniques we employ at our shop.
With his performance background, years of experience and
desire for perfection, Gary is uniquely equipped to
understand the demands of the professional woodwind
player. With Gary continuing to set the example for the
industry on professionalism, and quality of work; Gary
Armstrong Woodwinds is the premier Woodwind specialist
in Canada.

Shauna Penny joined the company full time in 2001, after graduating from Keyano College's band
instrument repair program. While already having a solid base in repair techniques, Shauna spent
several years working closely with Gary to improve her skills. Now with many years of experience
under her belt, she provides the same high standard of workmanship that Gary Armstrong
Woodwinds is known for.
Ziming Wan is the newest addition to our staff. He came to the company this year after completing
his first year of studies at Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Music as an oboist. Having proven
himself as a worthy apprentice, he is now working closely with Gary and assisting him in repairs.
